London houses more than 20 universities and a student population of over 300,000 people, so naturally a lot of you are interested in seeing how universities in the nation's capital fare. Here's our of the top 5 universities in the great city of London:
1. London School of Economics and Political Science

In London’s top spot, as it has been since 2013, is the London School of Economics and Political Science – although its overall place in the UK has slipped to 4th. LSE specialises in social sciences and with 5 subjects scoring top-5 ratings, just pips Imperial to gain a higher overall score. It also has the 2nd overall highest score for Research Quality; resources include the UKs largest single library, and the Women’s Library, which it has managed since 2013.
2. Imperial College London

Imperial College London is a specialist institution that focuses entirely on science, engineering, medicine and business; it regularly places 2nd in London on the heels of rival LSE, and is never outside of the top 10.
Breakthroughs associated with the university include the discovery of penicillin and foundations of fibre optics, so it comes as no surprise that it tops the league for Research Quality and has the 5th highest Academic Services Spend. It is also 2nd highest overall for Graduate Prospects, at 90.3%, but this year its normally high Student Satisfaction has slipped below 4.
3. University College London (UCL)
University College London (UCL) has been 3rd in London every year since the Complete University Guide started publishing online in 2007 and this year it climbs to 7th overall. A good Student-Staff Ratio may be one of the reasons why it just edges ahead to gain the best Good Honours score in the city, with 88.8% of graduates leaving with a 2:1 degree or higher. The university has a great reputation for research, and counts 29 past Nobel Prize winners among its former students or academics.
Set in the heart of Bloomsbury, the university is worth a visit if just to see the famous philosopher, Jeremy Bentham’s preserved body, which is proudly on display in the UCL’s main building.
